    Skype VOIP capabilities will be added to ebay to improve communication between buyers and sellers. There are limited immediate benefits though for a marketplace which thrives on asynchronicity and anonymity ("fluffy_seller3085" may not always want calls!).

    In an article in Internet.com we get a quick heads up that eBay, Yahoo and Google are aligning their systems to allow customers to click on an ad and "call" - using eBay's Skype and Google Talk technology. And we thought life was complicated enough with text ads! Time to brush up your relationship with your friendly contact centre provider...
  • Mobile network "3" launches Skype phone

    The 3 network has announced a new phone that allows 'standard' mobile calls, free VOIP calls and - in a groundbreaking move that the industry has been collectively ignoring - free calls from mobile to a Skype desktop. This move could be seen in the future as a small but significant step in bring mobile web and voice (ie 'commerce') together, but it's certainly too early to call the end of the mobile telcos.
