In a joint venture with 118118.com (the directory services company PriceRunner will allow shoppers to get price comparison information on the move, in the retail showroom. [Editorial] Punish a retailer for £5, yet too lazy to take £80m in savings
Retailers know how they are punished for falling off the 'first page' of Price Comparison engines by a drop in sales, yet recently-released research from Pricerunner shows that customers are " One in five Britons will not get out of bed to save a tenner on a purchase and one in ten would rather stay on the sofa than bank £50". As retailers screw their margins to insignificance in order to shift product via price comparison, and to 'close the sale' online, what are we to make of this behaviour? -
'Brits don't go the distance for a bargain' - Pricerunner report.
According to the report, "Bone idle Brits are wasting £88.4 million a year by not venturing out onto the streets to bag a bargain. One in five Britons will not get out of bed to save a tenner on a purchase and one in ten would rather stay on the sofa than bank £50." While not quite at supermodel levels (ie not getting out of bed for less than £10k) this report makes fun reading and - crucially for a wet weekend - reminds us all as consumers, not as retailers of the sheer drugery that necessity-purchase shopping can be. Some aspects of the report are also covered in our Editorial. -
Ask.com chooses Pricerunner to 'power' its shopping search.
Ask.com has added to the range of services on its recently-revamped site with the appointment of Pricerunner to add a 'shopping dimension' to the search results. The offering is an unadorned 'white label' version of the main Pricerunner site and the link's hidden away under a 'more services' link so it's not clear how strategic a move this is, despite the warm press statements.
