HMV reports that its HMV.com site - enhanced by new branding and customer communication - has "continued to grow by over 100% year on year". Announcing its financial results for the 18 weeks ended 1 September, the company reports total HMV Group sales up by 12.2%. Group like-for-like sales are up 5.8%. -
HMV rebrand leads to results
The rebranding of HMV.com has resulted in the "highest-ever margin rates, average transaction values, email open rates and email sales", reports the online business. The new look site - which launched during the first week of September - incorporates HMV's new brand identity and 'get closer' strap-line, a fresh creative approach and provides online shoppers with enhanced usability. -
Will HD DVD and downloads revive music etailers' fortunes?
An interesting research piece from Verdict shows that - while overall market volume will shrink 2.9% to £40bn - the outlook for the specialist music store is brighter. A combination of some specialists going under (fewer slices of a shrinking pie) and music becoming less attractive to the supermarkets will give some retailers hope. Whether the shift to downloads (especially with Amazon now entering the market) will prove sufficiently lucrative, or the HD DVD a sufficiently large fillip, the critical Christmas period will make clear.
