Yahoo names top sites of 2006

Tee shirt retailer Split the Atom has won best shopping site of 2006 in the Yahoo Search! annual awards. The site is one of an increasing number of tee shirt retailers which print designs submitted by members of the public.

The judges - from the media, Yahoo and last year's winner - rated Split the Atom ahead of runners up Supermarket Wine, British Corner Shop, Riverford and Re-found Objects.

"Not only was the idea really unique and engaging", the judges also loved "the layout of the site and felt it was not only distinctive in concept but also superior to other shopping sites".

Split the Atom, and the other shopping sites, now go head-to-head against shortlisted sites in the other 8 categories for the Yahoo! Finds People's Choice Award - which is open for voting for the next 5 days.

Whether you like tee shirts or any of the designs, it's worth having a look at the Split the Atom site since it's a great model of crowdsourcing. Product development, customer focus group and customers all for the cost of £250 to the designer of any tee shirt designs which are printed.
