Search budgets on the up
Search engine marketing budgets set to increase according to the UK Search Engine Marketing Report 2008
Now in its second year the UK Search Engine Marketing Report is produced by E-consultancy in association with Search Engine Marketing agency Neutralize (*\*).
The survey which forms the basis of the report was completed earlier in the year by over 1000 respondents from both agencies and companies with first-hand experience of search engine marketing.
The results for search budgets are quite staggering, no wonder Google and the SEO companies are so wealthy, according to the survey 9% of companies surveyed are spending more than £1 million annually on paid search, with one in six companies surveyed (16%) spending at least £50,000 on SEO every year.
According to agency respondents, the proportion of overall client online marketing budget going to search is 31% and is virtually identical to last year, and 63% of companies are planning to increase their paid search budget and 61% are planning are planning to increase their Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) budget over the next 12 months.
Some 89% of company respondents rate Google as the best for return on investment. Yahoo is regarded as the second best for ROI by 68% of client-side advertisers. The data is strikingly similar for agencies, with 86% saying that Google is the best for ROI and 68% saying that Yahoo is second best.
The report costs £149 and is available to download from http://www.econsultancy.com/publications/search-engine-marketing-report-2008
