Microsoft new web server
Microsoft’s launches a faster, leaner and more stable Internet Information Server version 7
Microsoft has finally launched its next generation web server Internet Information Server (IIS) 7.0 as part of the Windows Server 2008 (WS8) suite, and it’s got plenty of new additions that should keep web hosting companies happy for sometime.
One of the new updates allows you to create hundreds of web servers in the time it takes to make a cup of tea. Additionally the server can be launched in a cut-down version that just does the basics and hence runs faster and allows hosts to put more web sites on individual servers.
WS8 is already running on thousands of sites already and seems to be reliable and solid according to Netcraft who monitor servers worldwide. It may also be the kick that finally takes Microsoft ahead of Apache, although there’s still a way to go, currently Microsoft IIS accounts for 35.95% of all sites and Apache is at 48.73%.
Additionally Microsoft also launched SQL Server 2008 and website development package Visual Studio 2008
