Free landing page load time check could reduce Adwords costs

How to make sure you duck Google's tax on slow-loading landing pages

A new free tool lets retailers take a detailed look at how long each component of a landing page takes to load.

Alertsite's Adwords Landing Page Integrity Scan has been designed with the aim of helping Adwords advertisers make amendments to their landing pages in advance of Google's planned changes to the way it calculates Quality Scores.

Back in March, Google announced that it will be adding page load time to the list of factors it uses when calculating a landing page's Quality Score. "Keywords with landing pages that load very slowly may get lower Quality Scores (and thus higher minimum bids). Conversely, keywords with landing pages that load very quickly may get higher Quality Scores and lower minimum bids," Google explained in its Inside Adwords blog.

The service can be used to check your own or anyone else's pages, allowing you to compare your site's performance with that of a competitor or a market leader.

Running the test is very quick and easy. Simply type in a URL, wait a few seconds while the page is retrieved and analysed and then review a report and graph detailing the overall response time, DNS look-up time, time to connect, time taken for any redirects and time to delivery of the first byte.
