Carboncreditz lets online retailers help customers go green

A new scheme from Grass Roots lets consumers earn green credits as they shop and gives brands and retailers the chance to boost their 'responsible citizenship' credentials by offering bonus Carboncreditz as part of their promotional activities

Carboncreditz lets online retailers help customers go green

Carboncreditz is a new 'green currency' designed to help consumers mitigate their carbon footprint by collecting green credits for particular purchases.

Carboncreditz has signed up as an affiliate with a host of online retailers and is rewarding consumers who shop via its site with Carboncreditz for any purchases they make (much in the same way as cashback sites such as Quidco pass on affiliate commission to their customers).

It is also teaming up with brands and retailers to offer a way for companies to cost-effectively promote their green credentials to environmentally aware consumers by offering bonus Carboncreditz with particular purchases.

"Carboncreditz is a powerful and really effective way for brands to demonstrate their commitment to green issues to their customers," says Tony Bates, a director of Carboncreditz. "Working with Carboncreditz can help brands keep customers loyal — there's increasing evidence that consumers are turning to and staying with those brands that demonstrate responsibility. This reward scheme will work with all types of products, from baked beans to cars, printed media and online shopping."

But do consumers still care about being green, now the credit crunch has hit? A new study by TNS says 45% of UK shoppers are still happy to pay more for environmentally friendly products. But whilst 21% of those polled across the world said their food buying habits are influenced by goods with green credentials, this figure dropped to 11% in the UK, reports Talking Retail.
