BT launches a solution to ensure compliance with new Payment Card Industry regulations

We enjoy a laugh on IR, and boy did we laugh when we saw the latest release from BT, which was boldly labelled “BT combats card Fraud.” You can imagine the comments at the headquarters of CyberSource, 41St Parameter etc “That’s it lads we’ll have to shut up shop, BT has solved card fraud, we may as well all go home now.”

So have they solved the card fraud? Not a bit. BT have simply announced that it is launching the new BT Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance service, but that doesn’t sound half as exciting as “BT combats card Fraud” does it?

For those of you interested BT is now certified by the PCI Security Standards Council as a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) and an Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV) for PCI Data Security Standard services.  It also now has two new solutions; an on-site assessment to verify compliance, and a security scanning service designed to test for weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

If you want to find out more then you’ll have to go talk to BT as they decided not to go into more detail.

To laugh a bit more: according to the website https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/index.htm, tab resources you will find that BT Counterpane is not on the list of Qualified Security Assessor (QSA), but only on the list of Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV).
