British retailers can now study for a diploma in internet retailing

Internet Retailing's co-founder and editor-in-chief has launched the UK's first internet retailing diploma course, in partnership with E-consultancy's training arm

British retailers can now study for a diploma in internet retailing

A new Diploma in Internet Retailing, the first qualification of its kind in the UK, is being launched this week by Internet Retailing's co-founder and editor-in-chief Ian Jindal and E-consultancy.

"Over the course of a number of years of creating and running ecommerce teams I've come across the challenge of combining 'traditional' retail skills (from buying and merchandising to store operations and logistics) with the newer skills in digital marketing, ecommerce and web best practice," explains Ian. "Work with clients, and feedback into Internet Retailing magazine, shows that this is an ongoing issue for businesses."

"This diploma forms part of Internet Retailing's contribution to skills and professionalism in our industry, and we'd welcome suggestions for improvement," he added. "I'm also looking for volunteers to join our Leadership Council of senior cross-channel retailers, so as to keep the diploma relevant and to meet once or twice a year with the delegates."

Here's the official announcement:

Shoppers in the UK spent £26.5bn online in the first half of 2008, a 38% increase on 2007 spending during the same period. But the rise of ecommerce and multi-channel retailing means retailers face a new set of demands on the skills and experience required to compete effectively. The current retail climate has also sharpened the focus upon the skills and capabilities needed to compete effectively and profitably now that ecommerce has reached a level of maturity: "being online" is no longer sufficient.

In response to this shifting landscape and to continued client requests, E-consultancy is pleased to launch the UK's first Diploma in Internet Retailing.

Building upon E-consultancy's programme of highly-rated and commercially focused professional training in digital publishing and digital marketing, E-consultancy has partnered with Ian Jindal (Editor in Chief of Internet Retailing and ecommerce consultant) to develop the Diploma.

Run over one year, the Diploma will impart an understanding of every facet of internet retailing; from sales and marketing, through buying, logistics and operations, to commercial strategy. Delivered as a combination of face to face training days and structured self study, the course is aimed at ecommerce professionals or those hailing from other retail disciplines, preparing delegates for a rounded, commercial leadership role.

The course begins on 1 October 2008 and numbers are strictly limited to eight delegates. For more information and to request an application form, please visit the website or email retail@e-consultancy.com.
