Borders' new website takes new approach to book selling
Public beta test shows off features that Amazon hasn't got
The long-awaited and much-anticipated new website from bookseller Borders has launched in beta test mode.
The new site incorporates a number of unique features designed to differentiate the Borders offering from other, longer-established sites.
The new features focus on search and navigation and on the provision of more extensive content. The most obvious feature when first visiting the site is the inclusion of the borders.tv service which streams book-related TV shows and interviews with authors and provides a way for customers to upload video reviews.
Search and navigation is also unusual. The search tool uses an auto-complete function and has what Borders describes as a "spookily accurate book suggester" that allows customers to input the details of a favourite book and receive a list of others that they might enjoy.
