Online bookseller The Book Depository‘s annual turnover for the year ending June 2009 was £61,492,461, representing a 51.7% increase on last year’s £40m figure.

The Book Depository is the second largest online bookseller in the UK, and the fastest growing in the world. It was recently placed fifth in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 and won the award for Direct Bookseller of the Year at this year’s British Book Awards. The business despatches some 100,000 parcels each week.

This year has seen a number of initiatives, including a web site redesign and the extension of free shipping to more than 90 countries worldwide, a dedicated US site at BookDepository.com and greater promotional activity with publishers.

“This year has seen some tremendous developments for customers and a huge extension of our free shipping offer around the globe,” says Kieron Smith, the online retailer’s managing director. “Our constant efforts to make as many books available as possible has meant that more and more customers are discovering The Book Depository every day.”
