Apple Sells One Million iPhone 3Gs In First
Weekend
If you don’t believe the mobile revolution is here, then sales of the new iPhone should put pay to any cynicism, as Apple announced it sold its one millionth iPhone 3G in the first weekend. Additionally iPhone and iPod touch users have already downloaded more than 10 million applications from the new App Store in the first three days.
“iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.”
Additionally mobile ad network AdMob reports it has served nearly 250 million iPhone ads worldwide since the iPhone advertising network debuted last July, and that the top countries for traffic were the U.S., Philippines, the U.K. and France. AdMob's iPhone network served 51.8 million ads worldwide in June, a 32% increase on the 39.1 million ads served in May. In the US, AdMob served 34 million ads in June, a 31% increase on the 25.9 million ads served in May. Major advertisers that have run iPhone ads exclusively with AdMob include Land Rover, Jaguar and Fox
"We expect that the iPhone and devices like it will be an enormous catalyst for the mobile media business," said AdMob CEO Omar Hamoui.
