Online retail therapy alleviates office woes

Submitted by on August 31, 2010 – 10:15 amNo Comment

Tomorrow at 4pm could be a stronger trading time than online retailers might expect, according to a new survey.

That’s because, found research from online price comparison website InvisibleHand, reported in the Telegraph, traffic to internet shopping sites is 75% higher on a Wednesday than at quiet times of the week. The research seems to suggest that employees go online halfway through their working week in order to escape stress and boredom in the office.

The post-lunch slump is also to account for a rise in online sales, it suggests, with a 52% rise in the number of people shopping online on a typical workday afternoon compared with mornings. Ecommerce is also 11% higher at 2pm than at midday. The key weekend time for online shopping is Sunday night, when 27% more computer users head for online retail therapy, compared to a Saturday night.
