SuperGroup takes e-commerce in house in bid for greater profits

SuperGroup, owners of youth fashion label Superdry, is taking the official Superdry seconds website in-house as it looks to increase its e-commerce profits.

Chris Griffin, who previously ran the 888 Clothing site as a sole trader, is joining SuperGroup as head of e-commerce and has taken a settlement of £500,000, payable in the recently-listed SuperGroup’s shares.

Since September 2009, seconds from the fast-growing retailer have been sold by 888 Clothing. By March this year, the company was ranked first in terms of sales in eBay’s clothes, shoes and accessories category. SuperGroup’s revenues from these products have steadily increased, and now the retailer has decided to move the whole operation in-house.

Julian Dunkerton, SuperGroup chief executive, said: “Chris Griffin’s appointment represents a huge step for us as we move towards creating a dynamic, fully integrated e-commerce capability. This will ensure that we are better placed to maximise our internet sales and drive profitability. Chris’s undoubted track record and understanding of e-commerce are a great boost to SuperGroup, and we welcome him on board at such an exciting time of growth both in the UK and internationally.”

SuperGroup listed on the London Stock Exchange in March, where earlier this month it became a member of the FTSE 250, the top 250 companies listed on the exchange. As well as Superdry, SuperGroup’s brands also include Cult Clothing.
