Argos e-commerce revamp also includes iPhone app

Submitted by on June 2, 2010 – 5:18 pmNo Comment

As part of its move to become the de facto e-commerce retailer in the UK, Argos has, of course, launched an iPhone app that will form the beginning of the company’s mobile strategy.

The apps features a store locator, a stock checker and browsing and reserving facilities, and is a key part in getting the UK consumer base to think of “Argosing it: when they want to buy something.

The app lets users browse the company’s 25,000 item stock base, locate the nearest store, check the availability of items and reserve them. It doesn’t let the user actually pay for them over the air – that has to be done on collection.

The app does, however, remember all the user’s details, so that they don’t have to be constantly re-entered into the app each time you start browsing. It also saves on queuing at the store to use one of the networked machines in-house. You can reserve on your way around the store.

And if you don’t have an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, Argos will sell you one via its newly revamped website so you too can join in the app fun.
