Online fashion retailers disappear from search, report says

Submitted by on April 30, 2010 – 2:24 pmNo Comment

Consumers search online for women’s clothing three times more often than for menswear – yet many major fashion labels are disappearing from the results.

That’s the findings of a new report from Greenlight, specialist SEO and pay per click consultants.

Its Fashion Retail Sector Report – Issue 5 found that 6.8m searches were carried out online with fashion-related keywords, 13% up from the 5.9m searches in December 2009. Women’s clothing accounted for 51% of those searches and men’s for 17%, with 2.4m searches for ‘dresses’ and 49,500 for ‘mens jeans’. But for more than 10% of search terms, only 12 websites appeared.

Greenlight has listed the top 10 of the 60 most visible fashion brands in natural and paid search in the UK. The winners for natural search were asos.com, with 69% of searches, houseoffraser.co.uk with 61%, debenhams.com with 53% and newlook.co.uk at 32%. Winners in paid search were Marisota.co.uk (49%) and Very.co.uk (39%).

Other retailers who appeared in the top ten were lipsy.co.uk, republic.co.uk, simplybe.co.uk and littlewoods.com.
