For 2010 there are positive signals of growth coming from the German hightech industry. According to a BITKOM poll (BITKOM is the German IT and telco industry’s association), executed by market researchers Aris, four out of five companies expect a noticeable increase in demand. Only every third company admits to having suffered from the economic crisis. The impulses for growth come from domestic sources – 92% of companies expect demand to increase in Germany, and 62% an increase outside Germany, mainly in western Europe, but also from Asia and eastern Europe.

According to a BITKOM forecast, the German market for consumer electronics (CE) will develop very healthily compared with neighbouring countries. The market is expected to comprise 12.2 billion €. That would be roughly the same amount as 2008, but far more than in all of the other European countries. On average, the EU market is expected to shrink by 5%, down to an amount of 55 billion €.

These figures are based on the research done by market researchers EITO. “The Olympic Winter Games and the Soccer World Championship will account for a sales record in flatscreen TV sets in Germany — ca. 8.2 million items will be sold”, said BITKOM vice president Achim Berg, Microsoft’s country manager in Germany.
