Amazon increases profits by 68% in third quarter

Amazon.com has announced an increase in profitability of 68% for the third quarter of its financial year, which ended on 30 September.
Overall, net sales increased 28% to $5.45 billion and net income rose to $199 million.
International segment sales, representing the cpmpany’s UK, German, Japanese, French and Chinese sites, were $2.61 billion, up 33% from the third quarter 2008. Excluding the unfavorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter, international sales grew 35%.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, net sales are expected to be between $8.125 billion and $9.125 billion, an increase of between 21% and 36% compared with the fourth quarter 2008.
