Buy.com opens UK site to capture Christmas shoppers

US-based Buy.com has launched an ecommerce site for customers in the United Kingdom, offering shoppers “access to the best deals online and free shipping on today’s hottest consumer electronics and technology products.”
The launch is part of a coordinated multi-country expansion that also includes new websites for customers in Germany and France.
As part of its UK offering, Buy.com also will sell on eBay UK, and plans to expand its catalogue with new product categories and the addition of Marketplace sellers.
“We plan to replicate our successful online retailing model in the UK, which is a significant market addition for us,” said Neel Grover, president and CEO at Buy.com. “We’re introducing our core offerings in computers, electronics and software first, but we plan to deliver robust product catalogues featuring a variety of categories and the same value-added services to our UK customers.”
Buy.com UK is entering a well-served market where it will find itself in competition with retailers including Tesco, Argos, Comet and DSG as well as the soon-to-arrive Best Buy and numerous online pure plays.
