Asda generates online shopping lists from old receipts

Asda has introduced a facility at the Asda Groceries site to allow online shoppers to create a shopping list simply by typing in key details from a receipt from a previous store visit.
According to The Snow Patrol, which first noticed this addition to Asda’s rapidly evolving site, after “typing in the store number, the operator number, the till number, the transaction number, and the date and time of the order, the customer can retrieve the list of items they bought in-store.”
These items are then added to an online ‘favourites’ list, ready to be easily added to the shopping basket in the future.
The system works for any receipt up to six months old, giving an insight into the volume of data the supermarket keeps accessible at any one time.
