Treepodia turns static product images into video

Submitted by Sarah Clark on April 11, 2009 – 10:49 pmNo Comment

Video platform provider Treepodia has launched a new product for internet retailers that automatically creates multiple dynamic videos from still images. The new Auto Video service also features the ability to measure sales and can automatically choose to display those that perform the best.

“Many ecommerce websites have catalogues running into thousands of products making filming costs prohibitive, which is why product videos are still relatively rare,” the company says.

“Savvy web designers have known for some years you can increase online sales by using Photoshop and other tools to create the illusion of a moving image,” Treepodia adds. “The idea is to take a product in the foreground of a photograph and move it against the background using animation tools. But even this method, while being far cheaper than paying for models, film crews etc, is still a huge job for a large ever-changing catalogue of products”.

“Treepodia’s Auto Video creates a number of different videos for each item and works seamlessly with Treepodia’s proven infrastructure, enabling it to compare between multiple video versions. This way, even if part of the auto generated videos are not good enough, they will be thrown away automatically. The more views there are, the smarter the system becomes, thus optimizing the sales of the shop.”

Treepodia CEO Tal Rubenczyk explains further: “Auto Video interacts with our platform and we measure the effectiveness of each clip in terms of video seen till the end, user added item to the cart, user returned to the product page etc. Ecommerce sites with thousands of products can now have a video featuring every product in the range, without the prohibitive cost of conventional filming.”
