One in seven delayed present buying until after Christmas

Submitted by Sarah Clark on January 6, 2009 – 7:28 pmNo Comment

A YouGov survey from Shopping.com has found that 14% of shoppers waited until after Christmas to buy presents this year — and, yes, most of them were men. Northern men aged between 35 and 44 years old had the highest likelihood of delaying their present buying whilst Scottish women over 55 were the least likely to wait.

Shopping.com online activity in the week before Christmas showed the biggest year-on-year increases in toys and games (290%), consumer electronics (100%) and homes and gardens (93%). Overall, the eBay-owned comparison shopping pioneer reports activity up 59% on the same period last year with strong performances in relatively new categories such as footwear, clothing and fragrance.

“Retailers were cutting prices heavily before Christmas, but online shoppers can find even more bargains now the holiday is over,” says David Mackenzie, Shopping.com’s UK country manager.
